Alphabet Glue #3 and a giveaway!

Alphabet Glue Volume Three

My friend Annie, of Bird and Little Bird,  has just published Volume 3 of her e-zine Alphabet Glue. I've looked forward to each issue and am always delighted by how many well thought out activities, projects and printables are packed into one downloadable PDF. Annie's intention is to" inspire kids and their families to engage with the literary world around them."  As a mother, special ed. and literacy educator Annie pulls from her own experiences with children, as well as her love for nature, science and craft. Alphabet Glue is a wonderful addition to many different homeschooling paths and is a perfect companion for any family looking to expand their repertoire of "good stuff to do" on rainy days and slowed down weekends.

Fabric covered books fabric covered center-stitched books
"There are bookmaking projects, of course, as well printable fiction and non-fiction reading lists to take along on your library adventures.  This issue also includes a fun activity to encourage the curiosity of aspiring scientists, and has a special feature on the geography of stories and story mapping as well."

Story bunting 4 Story buntings, three ways

"Build bridges, make a story graph, follow your favorite story character on the map.  Make stickers and beautiful buntings and plans for great writing. Ask questions and look for the answers. Fall is here at last, let's jump into the leaf pile."

  2. Brambly Hedge is the best. I confess I still read them to myself. I just love those tiny characters and all their exploits. Lovely giveaway. Perfect to share with four year old granddaughter. twofishes@me.com.

  3. Autumn is by far my favourite season so the Autumnal reading list is looong... Little Blue Truck is one of my boy's favourite's and for me, well, anything to inspire some cosy crafting/cooking. This e-zine sounds lovely, and I will definitely be buying myself a copy if I don't win!

  9. Alphabet Glue Volume Two was absolutely brilliant, and I was waiting for this volume to come out. The ideas in the previous volume were ALL superb, and the children and I have made story lanterns as presents repeatedly. As for autumn books, I can only mention a German one (as we are located in Germany) - Herbst-Wimmelbuch by Rotraud Berner (which is also good if you are not familiar with the language, as the pictures talk sufficiently ;o)). Lovely illustrations that bring the spirit of autumn to you right away! Among the English books for children we have and read I cannot recall a specific autumn book. :-)

  10. What a generous give-away; thank you! I don't know why this book makes me think of autumn, but it does: The Lost Happy Endings, by Carol Ann Duffy. Beautifully illustrated, beautifully told. Having said that, my children are reading Jacqueline Wilson and Adam Blade at the moment - nothing seasonal about it, but they are gripped. So I'm happy!

  12. How generous is that! What a super give away.
It's Spring on our side of the world, not Autumn - so dredging up memories here.
Some of my favourite Autumn books are about food - the Harvest season. If you already like the Brambly Hedge books, try Alison Uttley (may be out of print, but your library should still have some). Try the Little Grey Rabbit or Sam Pig. For a more modern take on the theme - the feast scenes in Brian Jacques Redwall series are to die for. And I can't go past the harvest chapters in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series.

  13. Oh, I'd love to check out Alphabet Glue. Books are the best, but new ways to help little folks enjoy them are even better! As for me, fall always puts me in a mood to re-read Madeleine L'Engle's Wrinkle in Time series.

  14. I would love to have a look at Alphabet Glue. I love autumn but I have just realised we don't have any books which I would think of as autumn books except perhaps a book from the Eden Project about where our food comes from.
