fog

drizzly ditch
After dinner, I pulled on my mucks and grabbed a coat. Fog was creeping over the cow pasture across the road, and I had a sudden urge to be enveloped by its heavy wet mist. I grew up with a different kind of fog-
the kind that came with foghorns in the distance if you listened really hard...
the kind that swallowed whole hillsides covered with neat little stacks of houses...
the kind that made you strain your eyes to see through the wisps just to identify your bus only a block away...
fence in the fog
Thousands of miles across the country on a quiet road, my east coast fog is but a distant cousin to the one I remember... but I recognize the comfort of its heavy silence and smile as I take out my camera. Pin It

  1. Absolutely, I take comfort in this conveyed fog and the words took me back to a time when I was small and I lost myself in a field, in the fog, on purpose.

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. I don't often get fog where I live now and I miss the chill of the winter fog (which is "my" fog) too

  8. I'm one of the few persons in SF who thinks it's too hot here. I am always relieved when the fog finally rolls in.

  10. I love the photos... fog reminds me of living in California, actually. Some mornings we'd get some amazing and mysterious fog, and I'd love it. I actually haven't seen much of it in PA, so thank you for this posting.
