Living among farms and orchards in the northeast has given me an appreciation for the seasonal traditions passed down for centuries in these parts. Sharing them with my family has made them part of our own story together. After all, my most treasured childhood memories are not usually isolated events, but the things I looked forward to each year: the traditions that were unique to my family.  Recreating them with my children and making new ones together is one of parenting's greatest gifts. I've also noticed that I can't help but share them with you, too! Each year, my excitement for the beauty at my feet spreads into the rituals of what is posted for you. Here's to apples and pumpkins! And here's to my grandma's apple cake, which is in the oven right now...
Hope your weekend was grand! Pin It

  3. Lots of apple picking going on around us too. Macoun's are fabulous this year. I mark Fall with that first crisp apple bite. Send some apple cake my way. xox Corrine

  4. I, too, enjoy traditions, but I find it is my son who helps me really get into the rhythm of the seasons. From a very young age, the traditions have been very important to him, and when I don't feel up to doing much (fatigue of mothering and the busy-ness of daily life) he encourages me to push through and really make things special.

  5. Jennifer, I love how you shared of the motivation your son gives you. Without my children's enthusiasm for pumpkins yesterday, I might have happily stayed by the wood stove. They have the power to bring out our very best.

  6. I'm a fairly new reader of yours, so I haven't commented often. Your family weekend pictures were inspiring, very beautiful!

And darned if I didn't think about double doodling all weekend. I didn't get to it with my son, but I couldn't get the exercise out of my head. :)

    Thanks.

  7. Thank you for sharing a little peek of your traditions - they look just lovely. My favorite childhood memories are also the things I looked (and still look) forward to every year - cutting down the Christmas tree, Yosemite in April, 4th of July pool parties, visits to the pumpkin patch... The list goes on and on, thanks to my equally tradition-crazy mom. Your kids are very lucky!

  8. I agree wholeheartedly about the one of the greatest gifts of parenting being the sharing of traditions! I grew up in the NE, and ours look a lot like these. I can't imagine spending the riches of this season anywhere else! Thanks for sharing!

  11. looked like the perfect weather for apple and pumpkin picking. we were going to go last week, but the heavy rain "drenched" our plans.

establishing unique family traditions are so special and meaningful...especially when you get older and are able to reflect and appreciate them more.

  12. The best part of family traditions is when you see your children carrying them forward in their own lives.

    Loved this.
