motherhood is...

Thanks for stopping by today... I'm visiting a friend and would love you to come too. The lovely Meg, of Sew Liberated, has kindly included my little post in her series Motherhood is...
Meg is in the third trimester of her first pregnancy, and I'd love you to join me in wishing her well during this incredibly sacred time. Shall we head over... click here. Pin It

  1. Lovely and succinct. Thanks for guiding me back to a blog (listed with my Montessori resources) that I haven't been keeping up with because I've lost the balance in my life. When I read blogs like yours, I always shake my head in wonder that all these other moms seem to be able to get so much done when I'm accomplishing so little. I keep hoping to read your secret somewhere.

  2. I often wonder when I read a comment like Sarah's whether or not we as bloggers sometimes make other's feel inadequate in some way. We are no super mother's or super crafter's . We have creative bursts followed by quieter periods. We have sick children, dirty houses, lots of laundry , bills to pay , taxes to file , etc . We just usually tend not to blog about those things and we tend to focus on the beauty and creativity in our lives. I have yet to find anything creative about paperwork or filing taxes or I might decided to blog about that one day. It is no how much you do in a day that is important it is how you use your talents and creativity in the few things that you do accomplish in a day and your attitude towards the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us.

  3. Margie, I totally agree. Thank you , Maya, for bringing this up with your thoughtful post. It's such a dilemma for me - whether to focus on the beauty of life or to blog my reality (which is crazy - and has involved many crying sessions in the past few weeks because of stress and feelings of inadequacy). On the one hand, I want to be happy and optimistic and show that side of me to the world in hopes that it will inspire both others AND myself to get through the not-so-fun parts of life. On the other hand, I want to be honest about my reality. The nice version generally wins. Perhaps we need a "coming out" of sorts - a discussion among bloggers that shows the dark sides of our moons.

  4. My response to Sarah, Margie, and Meg... Thanks for your thought provoking comments. A blog is such an interesting mix of private and public content. Each one is as unique as the person writing it. What we choose to share is a matter of personal choice. My life is far from perfect, and I would never claim that it is as neat nor as tidy as this blog. But as I near my one year blogiversary, I am more grateful than ever for this haven I have created in the midst of everyday life. There are no dishes piling up in my blog... I never have to fold a single bit of my endless mountain of laundry. Keeping it inspiring and full of the best I have to offer is what feeds me, and I hope feeds you, as well.

  5. Oh, I was just referring to the crafts part. My kids want to be super involved in anything I'm doing. Only the 5yo is focused enough that I can let her do her own crafts, even so she wants to be right in what ever I'm doing no matter what I've got for her. I haven't figured out how to fit it all in without the kids going crazy. (also to clarify, the kids can do their projects in any manner they choose, but if I'm not paying 100% attention to them, the 2 little ones will run amok with the supplies all over the house. Especially the 3yo!)
But it's nice to hear what Margie, Meg and Maya said, too. I do often wonder if I'm more behind with housekeeping than everyone else.
