sewing together

My daughter has been drawing horses... non-stop for days, weeks. We decided to sew one of her pictures into a stuffy inspired by the horse in Alicia Paulson's Stitched in Time.

She wanted a wild horse and so that is just what was made. She selected polka dot flannel and a wooly yellow mane- silly perfection. We worked together for a while and when more independent sewing was desired, she jumped into a polar bear making.
Sparkly pompoms make perfect tails according to most 8 year olds, you know.
I showed her Ann Wood's cardboard stampede, and she now loves the idea of making bunches of cloth horses that are each totally unique. Since there are only two days of school this week, I'm thrilled we already know what we'll be working on... a polar bear family and a herd of horses. A happy Monday it is!
