We had been planning on getting a kitten for months. It was never the right time, until the week before Thanksgiving. We headed out to the SPCA to scout around and see who might be the right fit for our family. There's nothing quite like a kitten in your arms, and we fell in love with many of them. Before we made our final choice, my daughter wanted to go visit the adult cat area. While there, I got to talking to one of the volunteers. She convinced me that a kitten would be too much for our 9 year old cat, Hickory. She thought a female, one year or older would be a better match. I asked if she could point some out to me. "Well, that one over there might be perfect," she said motioning to the tiny siamese that my daughter was currently snuggled up with. Her name was Lovely, and we put in an adoption request immediately. Unfortunately, someone already had a hold on her, so we got on a waiting list. Two days later we heard that no one had shown up, and that she was ours, but had a cough... could we wait? Of course! You should have seen the happy dance we did that night. For the next few weeks, yes weeks, we waited for Lovely. There had been one cat sickness after another going around and they wouldn't let her go until she was totally healthy. That was fine by me... I was in no space to take care of a new sick kitty at the beginning of the holiday season. My kids, on the other hand were less patient. But finally, she was ready! On Tuesday we headed back to the SPCA.
We had many names picked out, but after all this time of calling her Lovely, it seems to have stuck. Besides, it suit her. She's sweet and calm, affectionate but shy. And really now, isn't she one little lovely cat? My daughter has already nicknamed her Love. She was obviously waiting for us as much as we were waiting for her.
oh my, she really is lovely! congratulations! :D

Congratulations!! She is beautiful and I'm sure she will be very happy in her home. 'Lovely' is definitely an appropriate name :).
ReplyDeleteGood for you choosing an older kitty. The bond will be as strong in a short while, if not already. We always adopt older animals because their future isn't rosy once they're at the shelter. Merry Christmas to all your family.
ReplyDeleteComing from a BIG cat lover, she is one beautiful cat. So glad you met your new family member!

ReplyDeleteWell that's a good name for her, because when you look at her you want to say 'isn't she lovely'. And she is!

ReplyDeleteHi, I'm new here.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice to read that your family got Lovely to become part of your family.
I have 2 kitties now, they are 7 months, and I'm waiting for nice people come to take them. It was a cat came to our little house and got birth 5 kitties in last summer, so we take care of them, and 3 of them already found a good home.
I was worry about there is no people want this 2 kitties because they are 7 months old already and their are female, but after reading your posts, I hope people wouldn't mind their are little bit bigger and older.
Congratulations! What a sweet beauty!
ReplyDeleteoh so fantastic:)
ReplyDeleteI got a cat from something like SPCA 1½ year ago.
And she is perfect.
The good thing with choosing grown up cats, is that you then know their personality, and then can get a really good fit.
My cat is totally social, and it fits me very well.
Hope your having a good time with your new family member :)
Absolutely perfectly and wonderfully.... Lovely. She has found herself a great home and family to join. What a very Merry Christmas addition for you all!
