it's here!

Happy Monday! I'm so excited to finally announce that my round bucket pattern is available in my shop. It has been tested and double tested at the Barn and Squam Workshops. I feel ready to release it into the world. It is for personal use only. The pattern is a PDF for both the medium and large round buckets. It includes tips and care for working with burlap and step by step instructions. So many of you have been asking for this! I'd love to see what you come up with if you make one. That's been the best part of my burlap workshops... seeing everyone's unique take.
I'll tuck a coffee sack pincushion in the mail to my first two bucket pattern customers! Just a little happiness in the mail!

I'm so happy to check this off my list! Now, I'm off to write up a simple tutorial for the Child's Travel Pillow. I'm really grateful that so many of you weren't too shy to ask. This is exactly what I love doing... sharing how to make things. My wish is to instill confidence and love in creating by hand. If you haven't learned how to sew yet... maybe that time is coming soon!
Sending you love on this first week of summer!

  1. Now all we need is a place like gimme coffee to get the coffee sacs.
I have inquired at many shops with no success. Maybe you could sell some of yours in your etsy shop?

  2. Sorry it's been so hard to attain the sacks. I've only heard of a handful of folks that can't find them. I will put a couple in my shop, but my hope is to encourage everyone to find their own. Selecting a sack and experiencing the rescue is part of the fun. Until I list them... there are lots listed on Ebay. Happy hunting to all of you coffee sack hackers out there!:)

  3. Hi Maya, on what scale of difficulty would you put sewing the buckets on? I'm just learning to sew (self-taught) and I've collected a couple of sacks inspired by you...so I'm all set! But tenacity aside, I'm curious if I'm biting off more than I can chew with purchasing the pattern?

  4. WRO-
I would call this pattern advanced beginner. It's a great way to pick up a few new skills. I'd be happy to give you some support along the way if you need it. My suggestion would be to make one with cotton replacing the burlap layer for your first run through... just to get the feeling for all of the steps before you work with burlap. I'm a self taught sewist, too so I'm hoping this is very accessible to all!

  9. It's amazing and curious to me that a bucket bag and burlap could illicit such joy in my own heart. And now I know I am not alone.

HA! Thank you! I'm headed over to get my pattern now!

Your W.I.P Bucket is on the Etsy handpicked items page (9.23 am GMT)!
I can't find a way to save it, and it changes every 15 mins, but I thought you would like to know!

  12. I'm so thrilled that you've jumped into pattern making and sharing. You know that I'm a burlap enthusiast, so it will come as no surprise that I think everyone, no matter what level, should give the material a go. It's just so interesting to work with and shape, and the forms you've constructed from it are so sculptural.

  13. Holy caffeinated creativeness - I'm sew so sew excited for this pattern, thank you. I too love your comment on "hunting and rescuing" the bags, it's part of the story and brings the personality to the bag the sewer creates.

  14. I've been waiting for you to do this - thanks!!! Also, I am assuming that the buckets can be made from cotton fabrics as well? Any adjustments to the pattern when using cotton?

  16. I adore this idea. And SO want to make one. But when I went and got some burlap, it made my skin crawl to touch it. Next step....find some cotton feed sacks, instead! :p
