on my desk...

For more on my desk players, visit Kirsty.
I had a nice little post for Wednesday's "on my desk" all ready to go for this morning, but the gorgeous fall weather pulled us outside before I had a chance. I'm so glad, because now I can share a spontaneous and beautiful project we created and I'll call it "on my picnic table..."

It all started when we went for a swing...

under the walnut trees...

found a stray sumac sprig ...

mesmerized by their colors, we gathered some...

brought our collection to the table and made this...

and then this...

and then reminded of her, I made this...

You never know what will happen when you make room for spontaneity and magic. I know we all have very full lives with long daily to d0 lists... but what would happen if we played a little more today, instead of waiting until the laundry was done. I can guarantee that those dirty clothes and stacks of dishes will still be there...but the sweet moments...let's capture them when we can! I'd love to hear about one of your recent sweet moments.

I love the idea of going for a swing under a walnut tree.

  2. The sumacs and trees are putting on such an amazing display this year. I find it so hard to spend so much time in my office when all I really want to do is walk in the forest and treat my eyes to the artistry and magic.

  4. I love your fun moments and the absolutely BEAUTIFUL photos of it all. My latest fun delightful moments were spent last weekend with my four year old grandchildren. Craft time was their favorite and when my grand daughter realized all on her own that she could use the bag of fabric scraps I'd put on the table for collage to spell her own name!
And when my grand son took one long narrow strip, glued it across the middle of his page and said: "It's a snake!"

  12. these days are intoxicating. I love it, take my girls out every change we get! I hope to live among trees as gorgeous as yours one day. Our magical moment recently: a bid drooping tree that my daughter danced under, leaves in her hair.

  21. If you give a Maya a camera she'll want to take pictures, and then she'll want to take her camera outside. When she's outside she'll see the beautiful trees, and that will make her want to take more pictures, and then she will see a fallen branch, and she will want to make words with the leaves, and then that will remind her of Kristin and hope notes so she'll want to make one of her own.....made me think of the book "If you give a mouse a cookie" Sweet!!

  23. I have my sweet moments every evening when I read a story to my children. They all4 want to sit ON or NEXT to me, they fight, they argue, they are loud and chaotic...and then I always think: "I want them in their beds NOW and I want to go downstairs and be quiet and alone".
But once I start reading, they all calm down, they listen very attentive, they almost fall asleep. And that's my sweetest moment of the day, because suddenly I realise that when they are all sleeping, my house will be TOO quiet and I even miss them, and then I wish it was morning to hear their happy voices and feel their arms around my neck...

  24. This is lovely! Fall is growing constantly now in San Jose. The temperature slightly, slowly cooling down. More overcast days. Today, I walked around the neighborhood and saw lots of pumpkins on people front doors...some trees with bright orange persimmons...came back...did some cuttings around the house and made a seasonal bouquet of fall. It's so nice.
