noticing

This morning there was an addition to my chicken chores... hauling in firewood. It was 38 degrees when we woke up,  and that means we've entered into the wood stove season.
The brisk air had more of an impact on my senses than the cup of coffee in my hand. I set it down and grabbed my camera. It's been a while since I had the luxury quiet time on my land and in my head. It felt decadent and necessary all at the same time. Reminder to self: noticing details and witnessing the big picture happen so beautifully with the tool of a lens to focus with. Let's take a quick walkabout together, and I'll show you what I saw...
It's a gorgeous time of year, and the loss of summer has less of a sting now that the fall colors are waving their seasonal flags. Plus,  I get to appreciate the beauty of where I live all over again with the gifts that a new season offers. What kind of "noticing" might you find in your neck of the woods today?

  1. I could have taken almost all of those pictures in my own yard. I am finding that this is the season of newly finished frogs - little tiny versions of their future selves, just freshly without tails, clinging to leaves in the afternoon. Nature's easter egg hunt, for me.

  2. clothes flapping on the line, the hills ablaze with color, pumpkins curing in the breezeway, cider in the fridge...such a fine season!

  3. I am enjoying the rich colors of my first year of canned harvest. Tawny applesauce, heavily cinnamoned and lightly sweetened with dark brown sugar. Jewel-colored rhubarb preserves, studded with raisins. Brilliant red tomatoes, mixed with some lovely purpley-green heirlooms. It makes me happy just to see that shelf, ready to brighten the whitewash of winter.
