it is what it is

Hi Friends,
I've learned so much in the last 6 months. Re-prioritizing happens on a daily basis around here. I've always put my children at the top of the list, but when you're a single parent, a mama's well-being has to be a close second. I'm determined to be on top of my game for them. When I had someone else to fall back on, I didn't always pay attention to the warning signs that I was on overload. That's ancient history now. I'm discovering how to maintain exquisite self-care.

Every year around this time, I get allergies that often turn into bronchitis or worse. As I scrambled to ready my children and home for the new school year, I also had lot of Squamie prep to do. Warning signs were everywhere. This weekend I could feel my health doing that subtle shift it does and stopped my busy bee-ing. I read chapter books with my daughter snuggled up on the couch, made miso soup,  took a nap,  and didn't try to bite off more than I could chew. I also kept reminding myself... "it is what it is". That simple phrase is packed with some powerful EASE. Try it out the next time you feel overwhelmed. There are only 24 hours in each day and only one of YOU, am I right? It is what it is...

I didn't get to do as much of my usual Art Fair sewing, but I certainly love the notebooks I printed last night before bed. It is what it is... and IT'S mighty fine, too. I'll have these notebooks, several burlap buckets, sachets, and plenty of signed copies of Reinvention for sale on Saturday night at the Squam Art Fair. I certainly hope you'll come out and join in all of the fun!

I'm off to fill my squamobile... see you back here next week! As always, I'll try to keep you posted on Instagram!

Maya

  1. As if I needed ANOTHER reason to wish I could afford to run away to squam (instead of the circus), these sweet little journals pile right up on that list. I rarely have time to write on paper, but I find myself wanting half the journals you've posted there. It is what it is: beautiful!

  8. I asked my Mom's oncologist where we are in the cancer- he gave the most honest answer he can given her complicated condition-- we are where we are...
I've been thinking a lot lately about "it is what it is"...I think it's so profound for so many reasons.
I love your notebooks-- have fun at the Fair

  9. Those notebooks are beautiful. One day I'd love to make it to Squam - perhaps when my little ones are big enough to enjoy it as much as I will.
