I love watching the changes along our country road as the wildflowers sense the gentle shifting of August's light. Each variety only has a few weeks to shine. They stand tall and proud amidst the chorus of cicadas... serenading all day long. If you happen to get out to the country this weekend, don't forget to admire the wildflowers... sometimes the journey is as lovely as the destination.
I was listening to a story on NPR yesterday about foraging for food, and it talked about the pollen of cat tails- apparently it is delicious, and adds great color and flavor to lots of things! Who knew?
I have so many great memories of looking for wildflowers with my grandma in Michigan, thanks for the reminder!

We're picking lavender tomorrow... I'm so excited! I know it's not the same as picking wildflowers, but nothing says summer to me more than my arms full of lavender.

Is that top one a purple loosestrife? We're on the watch for it around here as it's invasive in wetlands.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, as always.
Yes, Lisa... Loose strife. Very invasive and taking over all the ditches. I do love it's tall purple plumes, though!
