Today is a brand new day! Thanks for all of your loving thoughts last night and this morning. My daughter is doing quite well and my family is living with a bit more awareness and gratitude about each moment. Sally Rabbit has a brand new scarf and I have a brand new knitter*. I've gone from feeling like a so-so knitter to feeling like a knitting super star in my daughter's eyes. There is magic in what our children teach us.
*A little note about my knitting 5 year old... she has been finger knitting for almost a year, along with tons of other handcrafts (embroidery, braiding, weaving, lanyards, etc.). I believe she picked it up the needles quickly because of her intense desire and previous practice with textile crafts. Needless to say, she's hooked. After we bound off the scarf, we cast on for Sally Rabbit's new blanket. More pink.
Yeah, really beuatiful scarf. And the colour is great, too. Lucky Sally Rabbit!
ReplyDeleteI read of your day yesterday and it did go pear-shaped very quickly. I'm glad your wee one is OK and you all seemed to handle the shift in your day with such grace. Well done. Not sure I would have been so calm.
ReplyDeleteAnd the knitting. What a stroke of genius. She's taken to it. Her rabbit's scarf is a great first project.
SO glad your little one is okay. Head issues are scary. What a nice way to get started knitting though.
ReplyDeleteSally Rabbit is a very lucky bunny to have such a beautifully made scarf. Your daughter did a great job. I'm glad that all is well for your family.
ReplyDeleteI am so very glad that your little one is doing better. You must have been holding your breath for the last two days solid. You are right when you said that neither of you would ever forget the day she learned to knit! How true! The rabbit's scarf is sweet and wonderful, just like the outcome of this latest chapter in your family story.
ReplyDeletewhat a lucky bunny! it's a great scarf...please tell your daughter your bloggie friends are impressed!
ReplyDeleteI prayed for your daughter and your family yesterday so I'm glad to hear she is on the mend. I think it's so swell she wants to learn and that you trust she will...because not all mommys recognize that. You rock as a mommy.
ReplyDeleteI have just found your blog and this post made me smile - my teddy bear still wears a very similar pink scarf that is the first thing I can remember knitting, over 30 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your daughter is recovering well.
I just read this and the post about your daughter falling. I'm so so glad that she is fine...and that you had the special time together. Love that link scarf!

Dear Maya, at first thanks for all your words, pictures and sharing...I found your blog maybe a 6 months ago and you inspired me so much. I hesitate to write you because english is not my native language..but now I just feel I want to do it. Sending you a thought of piece and a lot of inspiration for you across the ocean from little Slovakia in the middle of Europe. Thinking about your daughter...stana
ReplyDeleteUsing the term "hooked" for knitting just seems so wrong to me. It's like how ignorant people call crochet hooks "needles" so how.
ReplyDeleteThis is so Twilight Zone. This is my first day home from the hospital. Monday I fell down a flight of stairs and ended up with a concussion. I was checking all of my favorite sites and came upon the story of your daughter. I hope she is feeling much better - I am recovering nicely.
ReplyDeleteglad to hear all is well with your sweet DD!!! And what a cute scarf!! Mother like daughter!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a fingerknitter to!
