stones

I've been painting on stones again. Maybe more like doodling... but it feels good. I have so little time for my own artistic expression this summer. I ache for this kind of time and space... so much so that I'm finding it creeping into my life in unexpected ways. I hadn't planned on stones... they were suddenly in my hand at nap time yesterday. I grabbed my ink and turned away from the the mountain of dishes. The wonderful relief that came with letting my brush move in unexpected ways was amazing.

Are they works of art... well, maybe not... but they are art that works... to keep me open and keep me sane. When my napper awoke, these little stones were incorporated into her afternoon play. Spontaneous goodness in every way.

  2. Love your artwork.. and hoping to find some of your inspiration within myself. I've wanted to accomplish so much in the evenings when I get home from work, but the past two nights I've been pretty stagnant. I need to get out of my funk! : )

  6. I love doodling on stones too although mine are definitely doodles, yours are gorgeous! It is so therapeutic. I would love to get my hands on some of that artist's acrylic ink though... Sharpie's just don't have the same effect. LOL.

  8. how in the world did you fix that pic so fast? :)
My daughter has been painting stones too, with regular acrylic poster type paint. I've been trying to get her to paint garden veg names so that I will remember where I planted things this year when it comes time to plant next spring. She prefers to "just" paint flowers and designs. It is a fun craft to share with visiting children. And adults.

  14. thanks so much for your sweetness and enthusiasm. we ALL obviously need to paint on stones more! Granny Boo's comment about the picture switch was regarding to my initial photo (still over at flickr), in which I had simply forgotten to add an "i" to possibility. My lovely mom, not only caught it instantly this a.m., but reminded me to never forget the I (as in "me, myself, and I") in possibility! Wise words, no?

  15. Wow! As soon as I saw your stones that look like little dolly's I had a childhood memory flashback. I actually used to do that. Paint little people on rocks in day-glow colors and play with them when I was small. Thanks so much for bringing back that happy memory! I had completely forgotten until now.

  17. Love these. I have a collection of rocks that I picked from everywhere and will be dragging with me across the country soon. I wouldn't dream of leaving them behind. I would however dream of painting them.

  21. Oh my goodness, these are so cute. I love your designs and the way that they are set up in the flowers in the last photo. It looks like a little fairy garden, your little one must have been absolutely enchanted! Doesn't it feel so good to almost stumble upon a creative outlet that seems so easy works so well? I just love it when that happens. You've got quite a following here on your blog! I am impressed, especially as a new blogger but also in light of the last class over at the fishbowl. You seem to have figured out the trick to growing your blog and attracting people who are really interested in what you do! Your voice and what you present are so authentic, and definitely make me want to come back and see what you are going to do next.

  23. Hmmmm.....yes, we all need to paint on stones more, a perfect activity for anyone but I'm finding it especially appealing acvitity for my two- and three-year-old kids. Thanks for the inspiration. My "mountain of dishes" is more like a neglected pile of ironing and some dust bunnies patiently awaiting my arrival on bookshelves, etc. :-)
