stamping my world

Thank you all for the stamp encouragement and tips. What a great resource you all are! I couldn't find any carving blocks at my local arts and crafts stores, so I returned to Blick. I'm checking my mailbox every day for that new box of supplies. I haven't been able to hold off experimenting, even though my current blocks are so crumbly... stay away from the EZ cut blocks. I can't quite believe it has taken me so long to discover the joys of carving my own designs. Here's some glimpses of what I've been doing late at night... to photograph for you in the lovely growing light of March.

My new spring binder...

Barn stationery for my mother....

Flower petal inspired by Geninne's tutorial and her famous rain drop...

Leaves on linen with Japanese fabric stamps (Versacraft)...

Stamping on fabric is what gets me the most excited... more to come!

  1. i agree, the EZ cut isn't very "carving friendly". i really like using the speedy-carve by speedball (it's the pink one). cuts like buttah! :)

  2. Hi Maya,
I love your stamps and prints! I've been wanting to try carving my own stamps ever since I got Lotta Jansdotter's book "Lotta Prints" (and after finding out I couldn't find freezer paper around here). Your posts about stamping on fabric encourage me to finally get started. So I will go get those carving supplies instead of just looking at them every time I make it to my craft supply store! Thanks!

  15. I can just picture you in front of the fire--and all fired up-- filled with visions of designs to carve and working away at it. The ones you've made are just stunning, and you really have a gift for distilling an image into its most important lines and shapes. Can't wait to see a whole line of maya*made stamps!

  24. I agree! EZ Cut is bad! The sad thing is I had 2 blocks of EZ cut for so long and was afraid to mess it up. Have you tried PZ KUT?? LOVE LOVE LOVE that stuff and very inexpensive! My 2nd fave is the Staedtler's Master Carve.
