it came!

The first snow arrived yesterday. We awoke to squeals of excitement from our littlest, who had seen the thin white blanket across the yard before anyone else had even opened their eyes. Flurries continued all day. By dusk the snow began to fall steadily. It was the soft, silent kind that seems to hush the world around you.

The dark comes swiftly these days. By the time the kids had gotten on their millions of layers, found lost mittens, and been stuffed into snow gear, the day had turned to night. How magical to have your first romp in the snow be at twilight.

Falling snow is so calming, it always seems to evoke stillness and peace I think.
    Enjoy.

  3. Sadly Melbourne is too temperate for snow but I love your description of the hush.

  4. Lucky you! It keeps threatening to snow but we haven't seen any yet. It's not much fun when it's just cold outside.

  6. we get snow maybe twice a year here. last year it started snowing one night while the kids and i were snuggled in bed watching a movie. there is a special silence accompanied by snow - i knew it was snowing the minute i heard absolutely nothing. the kids suited up and ran outside to play until way past bedtime. it was perfectly magical.

    enjoy!

  7. We were out first thing this morning to play in the snow. I think it took longer to get all the mittens on than they were actually outside, but it was still worth it to see how excited they were. :)

  8. Lucky! We don't have snow in Newfoundland yet. At least, not on the South West Coast.

Hope you have lots of fun!

  9. It's beautiful but it makes me shiver! But the first snow is always so magical. I've enjoyed catching up on all of your doings! Your burlap containers are awesome. I scored some coffee bean sacks at our local roasters and shared them with Melinda. And I'll be gathering toilet paper rolls in anticipation!

  13. Beautiful photos! My three-year-old went running to every window in the house, saying, "The snow is over here too!" All the kids were so excited at his school. I love it, although I wasn't so happy with scraping the ice off the car!
