Over the weekend I hinted that I would be making an announcement soon (no, I'm not having another little one, at least not right now). My desk will give you a very big clue. The doors to my Etsy shop are finally getting ready to open. There was a point back in September where I almost let go of that dream. I recently realized that I could start slowly and small. With blogging, I jumped in before I knew how to swim. With Etsy, I'd love to start in the shallow end and work my way towards the deep. Any advise from you seasoned sellers or buyers would be so appreciated.
So on my desk are several different maya*made labels. Coming soon will be an entire post just on different techniques I've been trying out... in hopes of helping you if you ever were to need a label of your own.
Above my desk are a couple of the things I plan to have in my shop. I decided to display them as if my studio was my shop. I'm really enjoying this idea.
More coffee sack pin cushions- you all seem to love them as much as I do! Above my window is a string of linen "patches" that are stenciled and hand painted with simple organic images.
It was suggested a while back that I sell some of my designs on linen... ready to be turned into other peoples creations. They also look nice mounted and framed. I did that with this bird. So now that I've gone public, I guess I'd better get to putting "things on the shelves". Doors open on Friday. I'll slip you the directions then... :)
How exciting Maya!
ReplyDeleteI love the pincushions & the little patches look wonderful.
I just started following your blog and have been sharing the good news with friends.

ReplyDeletei'm swooning over the pomogranate!!! can't wait to see your shop. love the idea of your studio as your shop. might have to steal and turn the kids playhouse (not used by them) into a store.
ReplyDeleteDitto about the pomegranate. My great grandfather had a tree- it's sortof our "family fruit" Can't wait for the shop reveal!
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I can't wait for the labels post! I've been brainstorming my own for the past few weeks!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, friend. I got the Etsy bug, but my cold feet got too intense. I'm glad that you are on a roll. Stepping into the shallow end sounds brilliant. jan
ReplyDeleteEverything you make is so beautiful, natural and useful. Three very important things to be. I wish you all the success in the world as you open up your shop on friday. I am sure a great many people will want a little piece of maya*made in their lives and homes.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Everything you create is beautiful. I know you will be successful!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the patches. I am so excited to browse in your shop!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! Wow! Hope I can live up to all of your excitement. I'm so lucky to have such kind and supportive readers...FRIENDS! Remember, it will be a small shop at first:) So funny about the pomegranate. That's the only patch that I did so much hand painting on. It started out as stencil of a simple pod, but wasn't quite right. I kept going and going, but had no idea it was a pomegranate until you made me look at it again. Of course, it is! I must have been staring at A Foothill Companion's banner for too long. I think I'll try to repeat this one... it's my favorite, too.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting Maya!!! Congratulations on the soon-to-arrive grand opening. I know I speak for many in expressing my excitement for a maya*made shop!
ReplyDeleteI have found that the most helpful element of running an Etsy shop is having interesting photos that have clear lighting and interesting styling. Quick shipping and communication make (repeat) customers happy too. With your talent and artistry, I am sure you will WOW us with your shop! :)
i am loving all your differet creations from hessian.. its amazing.. want to go find some old sacks and make some myself..

ReplyDeleteThe patches and pin cushions are amazing! I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you didn't give up on your dream! Even if you weren't my wisest and kindest and sweetest friend, I would want to visit you every day in the form of your blog (which I do) and have something maya*made to brighten my day. So I will mark Friday on my calendar and be sure to visit your shop. The pincushions and linen patches are stunning!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!!
So exciting - can't wait to see all the goodness in your shop.
ReplyDeleteLove your creative space - must be fabulous to have a window in front of your desk!
And... I'm so looking forward to your info on making labels - I'm starting a little venture of my own and will need to get labels going in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for inspiring!
A.
Oh Maya! I am so excited and looks like you will make quite a hit! The pin cushions are so fun and very fresh! Congratulations! By now you are at the stage of "this is not as hard as I thought" and "wow, I have to do a lot of behind the scene computer stuff"
ReplyDeleteHalloween activities around here are keeping my very buzzy. I am going through blog reading withdrawl!!!

oh, that's so exciting! i do love those pincushions. we're going over to the co-op tonight to get some coffee sacks - but they won't give them to me without the used grinds! so we'll just add them to our compost, which should smell lovely!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I love the home shop idea too. Nice to see your wares hanging there. Love the banner and the labels too.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to your "store grand opening". Wishing you lots of success.
Today's the big day! Are you ready?
ReplyDeleteHey, I just saw that there's another MayaMade out there on etsy? Who does she think she...? Sorry.
Congratulations Maya!! I've been seeing your things in flickr, but have been waiting til I had the time to savor your posts and your latest creations! If I thought I loved the coffee sack items, I am even more in love with your printed linen patches! And yes, no doubt your creations will fly off the shelves - they all have such a wonderful organic quality to them. I'm so happy you decided to go forward with your shop!
