More baskets! More joy! More fun! I can't stop… just trying to document them all for future making and to record their beauty. There are still others that didn't make it into this shot. I have a bunch of solids- blues, golds, and cream! So good. These will go to Squam, but any leftovers and a whole new crop will be filling my shop mid June. Happy Monday!

ReplyDeleteYou have been busy! The baskets are beautiful and I am feeling quite inspired. I have a couple of questions regarding using indigo. How long do you let the material steep in the vat? Is it like other dyes where the longer you leave it in, the deeper the colour, or do you find that you need to double dip to get a deeper depth of colour? Is indigo stinky to use? Would you feel comfortable using this with kids? Thanks for taking the time to answer and for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteNancy- you don't let it steep very long… to intensify color it's all about repeating dips. Not so stinky as super messy. I wore think dishwashing gloves and recommend that vs. little disposable ones. I would be comfortable dyeing with older kids, but not littles and might just do it with my camp girls this summer. They are 9-12 years old. Hope that helps. Have fun!
DeleteThanks for the tips and info. You mentioned it being messy; what do you use to clean up wayward drips and splashes? I think this may make an interesting Arts Day activity, but I would need to work out all of the details.

ReplyDeleteMaya, these are fabulous! Where do get the rope? I have some at the local hardware store... the only place I can find it anywhere, even online, for .20/ft. And I have to order it in. Any leads would be appreciated to quench my obsession that has been fuelled by your obsession.:}
ReplyDeleteMaya, I have my new natural colored basket (purchased this past weekend at Squam) on my kitchen counter filled with apples and avocados. I had to show it to my knitting group tonight first though (they all loved it and so do I!). Your daughter was adorable and so helpful working with you at the fair. I look forward to future purchases from your creative hands.
