My mom bought this vintage globe without a base for a quarter at a yard sale this summer. It rolled around for a couple of days... even bounced its way into several photo shoots before it began its search for an inspired resting spot. Here are several possibilities...
rusty cast iron umbrella stand:
pewter bowl:
Christmas tree stand from the 40's:
vintage caged trouble light:
vintage foundry mold:
doubled up foundry molds:
Which is your favorite? We'd love to hear!
Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'll take one globe a la pewter bowl, please.
I love them all but I just see it on the plant stand in a home library. Perfect!

Pewter bowl or umbrella stand--so many cool ideas for it.
ReplyDeletePewter bowl or umbrella stand! (Apparently I'm not the only one who thought so) :o)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful globe! We collect vintage golobes, too! I love it on the pewter bowl the best.
ReplyDeleteumbrella stand ...hands down
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I'm personally digging the pewter bowl as a stand.
ReplyDeleteI like the umbrella stand - you could still put a shelf on the bottom rack to store atlases or travel books... and a cup of coffee (tea?) in the ring while your enjoy your own miniature travel library...

I think it goes best on the pewter bowl. It feels the most like a real globe stand. The spherical shape makes it feel more balanced as well.
ReplyDeleterusty cast iron umbrella stand
ReplyDeleteUmbrella stand definitely (an old urn would look good too).
ReplyDeleteI really like the vintage Christmas tree stand! Seems just the right height.
ReplyDeleteDefinately the umbrella stand...
ReplyDeleteIt's got to be between the umbrella stand or the pewter bowl, they both look fab!
ReplyDeleteThe umbrella stand struck me the minute I saw it. Thanks for sharing..

Umbrella stand or the first foundry mold. I think the scale of the pewter bowl is off.
ReplyDeleteGood find!
Umbrella stand. Completely.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the umbrella stand. Puts it at the right height for exploring.
ReplyDeletewhat an awesome find for only a quarter!
ReplyDeletei would have to vote for the pewter bowl.
I think the first one..the umbrella stand... I think it needs to go on the other side of
ReplyDeletethe zebra closet.. on the one side
you had a umbrella stand right...it would be fun to put this on the other side.
You know what would be fun too?
Do you know the glass balls that use to be on nets... they are usually green?Wouldnt it be fun to cover this globe with a fishing net and hand it from the ceiling? I think it would be fun!
What ever you choose it will be lovely I'm sure. I hope we see it in its new home!?!?! Hope you are feeling better too!
Take care sweet friend!

single foundry mold. I love how the orange base makes the orange on the globe pop. :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love the patina of the pewter bowl and how it gives a bit of shine to the globe.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I'm fond of the pewter bowl option.
ReplyDeletethis is far too fun! thanks for joining in!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! My favorite is the vintage umbrella stand.
ReplyDeleteWow, they're all awesome in different ways.
ReplyDeleteI like the umbrella stand...you can leave a colourful umbrella in it and check out your next holiday destination at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI vote umbrella stand too.
ReplyDeletei like the foundry mold!
ReplyDeleteumbrella stand... definitely
ReplyDeletethe vintage foundry mold or pewter stand. Interesting how different it looks with each option!
ReplyDeleteumbrella stand for sure!
ReplyDeleteI like the umbrella stand and the tree stand...I am likeing the distressed metal!
ReplyDeletePewter Bowl!
ReplyDeleteI like diferents possibilities but my favorite is the rusty cast iron umbrella stand....
ReplyDelete:)
The Pewter bowl!!!
ReplyDeleteSimple & works with the proportions!
Cheers
I like the umbrella stand or Christmas tree stand best.
ReplyDeletePewter bowl for sure!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find...
I vote for the umbrella stand....love it!
ReplyDeleteoh. i am all about the pewter bowl, baby!
ReplyDeleteI'm casting my vote for the umbrella stand - the two balance each other well and the tall stand gives the globe a sense of importance. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe first one! The umbrella stand has a place for the moon.
ReplyDeleteyou're all amazing!
ReplyDeleteteaborg- you have taken my breath away with your simple and brilliant comment!
I like the umbrella stand. It looks very Galileo.
ReplyDeleteI like the pewter bowl for a smaller space and the umbrella stand for a larger one. They're all very fun!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the umbrella stand idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the umbrella stand!!
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to the umbrella stand ... I love the height of it!
ReplyDeleteYou know my answer! ORANGE all the way.
ReplyDeletePewter Bowl...
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I'd say either the umbrella stand or the single foundry mold.
ReplyDeletepewter bowl
ReplyDeleteOhhhh no.... I saw this post when my husband was beside me and being the avid cartographer he is, he got all excited and told me to 'BOOKMARK THIS SITE!!!!!!' when I said all it was is a globe you got at a yard sale...
ReplyDeleteOk... bookmarking your site (even though you're already in my bookmarks) under 'Hobbies-GLOBE making'.
:D
And we like the cast iron umbrella stand. :D
The umbrella stand...you could even get a model of the moon and put it in the little holder halfway down!
ReplyDeleteAll are great! My Favorite has to be the pewter bowl...Super Cute!
ReplyDeleteOooh, the rusty iron umbrella stand - a globe, especially one as beautiful as this should be placed at childs eye level!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. The umbrella stand is great. But I was struck by the proportions of the Christmas tree stand... and I agree with those who said that the orange foundry mold really makes the colors pop. Yep...I may lean toward the foundry mold.
ReplyDeleteUmbrella stand for me...xmas tree stand would be second choice.
ReplyDeleteSo inventive! The umbrella stand is my favourite. Second choice would be the foundry mold :)
ReplyDeleteThey are all great-amazing how changing the base changes the whole look of it. But for me it's the rusty stand. They look as though they were meant to be together...
ReplyDeleteThey are all great, but if you want it to most functional rather than decorative I would go with the umbrella stand.
ReplyDeleteLove it on the umbrella stand!
ReplyDeleteI vote for doubled up foundry molds. The globe looks great on them.
ReplyDeleteI like the umbrella stand, cuz it wouldn't take up any room on a table or shelf. Although I do like the pewter bowl, too!
ReplyDeleteI quite like the Christmas Tree stand. It's so very substantial, and quite pretty.
ReplyDeletethe umbrella stand was my fave
ReplyDeleteI think it's the umbrella stand for me. I have a deck pretty similar to yours and it would just fill a corner beautifully! Glad I stumbled across your blog...it's beautiful and inspiring. Karen :-)
ReplyDeletepewter bowl--no question. so fun!!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage globes! I like the umbrella stand the most. I think it would look cool somehow afixed to the top of a bookcase :) Or it could be hung from a corner in a room as a paper lantern would be! My husband is a geographer and we have great hopes to have a huge wall in our next house (THE house we root in) that is a world map. Cool!
ReplyDeletedouble molds!!
ReplyDeleteumbrella stand, could you wire it to be a lamp?
ReplyDeletethat would be awesome!
The pewter bowl would be more like the size of the original stand probably, but I love the foundary mold or the doubled up foundary molds. The brick color highlights the colors of the continents and makes the globe look substantial and solid. The whole look is kind of modern, funky. I love the globe!
ReplyDeleteUmbrella stand all the way! They really all are cute, but that one just feels "right" to me. What a nicely faded globe too, we are looking for one similar. Just wish that we had better thrifting options in NYC!
ReplyDeleteHi ,
ReplyDeletejust found your site.nice!
I think that the antique umbrella stand is a must!!

Hiya,
ReplyDeleteThought I'd add my vote - for the first stand, the old umbrella stand. It's a piece on it's own but makes the globe stand out as the focal point a little more than the others.
Definitely in love with the rusty umbrella stand with the pewter bowl coming in at a close second.
