Happy Monday! Fall was in the air this cool and wet weekend, and I'm in a very fulfilled state. Yesterday, as the rain poured down, I nested to an extreme. I cooked and baked all day. I am at my happiest when I'm making delicious food without any time constraints and purely for the pleasure of my family. We had an abundance of fall fruit ripe and ready all at once. I scrambled to make sure we put it to good use. Mini Galettes are a returning favorite. I've shared the recipe for these little hand held pies before. This time we got wild and tried them with assorted local grapes,
the last of the berries (just picked),
the first plums from our tree,
and apples from our Apple CSA. But our favorite discovery of the day: PLUMPLE SAUCE! Don't you love saying that? While I cooked some plum butter, the kids helped make a huge pot of apple sauce. My son decided to merge the two when they were done: Plumple sauce was born. So good!
It's a little different than just cooking apples and plums together. The plum butter was so thick and instensely flavored... a perfect foil to the mild applesauce. Hope our tree blesses us with even more plums next year... I don't think this jar will last through the day!
Everything looks so tasty! I need to get plums from the market this week!
ReplyDeleteAll of your baking looks/sounds mouth watering.

Sunday was a great day for nesting; wish my nesting had been as fruitful as yours!
ReplyDeletePlumple sounds too much like pimple.
ReplyDeleteBut the fruit combo actually LOOKS amazing - and I bet it tastes even BETTER than I'm imagining.
Great photos.
Hello Maya! I just came across your blog and LOVE the mix of recipes, DIY, practical know-how and inspiration. WHAT a wonderful blog. I can't wait to make your petite galettes with all the plums and pluots we have in the desert right now. Looking forward to following your pursuits upstate! (I grew up on a farm just south of you in rural NJ). xo!
ReplyDeleteThis all looks delicious! It's hard to beat fall fruits in pastry.
ReplyDeleteYummy!! makes me want to bake.
ReplyDeletePlumple sauce sounds so delish. And it's so pretty in the jar. Love the little pies too.

Thanks for the mini galette recipe--another yummy treat to use up the bushels of apples we picked this weekend. Do you know if they freeze well, unbaked or baked?
ReplyDeleteOh, the wee jars of plum butter look so wonderful! (As do the mini galettes.) I just got some prune plums from the farmers' market this morning--now I'm wondering whether I can make plum butter with just the few (6-7) I got, or if I'll need to get more first!
ReplyDeleteMaya, how do you do it all? The aroma of pie pulled me right to this lovely post! I have to try your recipe. What a perfect Autumn baking project {especially if you can just take your time, as you suggest}.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that plumple sauce looks amazing!
